Monique's Thoughts

Word to Describe Ballet: Everything

Reflection about Ballet: I dance because I love to do it. I don't know why I love it - it's hard, sweaty, and I have to work every day for it, but I love it anyway. I think the struggle is the reason I love it. I'm smart, and school isn't usually that challenging for me, so ballet is something I have to work for, something that IS hard. I'm not naturally skinny, flexible, or turned out, which makes it REALLY hard. I don't have to add it like math, or reflect on it, it just is.
Ballet is a part of my life, and I dance also for the people. The girls I dance with are better than sisters--they make dancing so much more enjoyable than if I was on my own. Dancing is a way I can express myself; I can tell a story through my movements, and I love it. I can be whomever I want to be when I dance, whether it is a fairy, snowflake, an evil rat, a girl, or a drop of water. It's my gateway into an unknown world to anyone else.
Ballet also makes me feel good. It feels good to be so physically tired that I fall asleep instantly, and none of my non-dancer friends understand this. Ballet isn't really an activity for me; ballet IS me.
