Newtown Board of Finance to Discuss 2026-2027 Budgets, Rail Trail Extension

The Newtown Board of Finance will convene on Feb. 9 to cover the upcoming 2026-27 budgets for the First Selectman and Board of Education.

NEWTOWN, CT — The Newtown Board of Finance will hold a meeting on Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Newtown Municipal Center. The agenda includes discussions and potential actions on several key financial matters for the town.

Among the new business items, the board is slated to review the Budget Process Overview. They will also discuss the First Selectman Budget for 2026-2027 and the Board of Education Budget for the same fiscal year. These budget discussions are a central part of the board's responsibilities.

Further discussions will center on the Medical Self Insurance Fund Strategic Plan. The board will also consider multiple Financial Impact Statements. These include one for the Housatonic Rail Trail Extension and another related to the DEEP Recreational Trails Grant for the same rail trail extension.

Additional financial impact statements on the agenda cover the proposed acquisition of 15 Hawleyville Road through a waiver of back taxes owed. The board will also review the financial implications of the Gloria Foundation Grant for the Better Day Café and the Newtown Community Center Basketball Courts.

John Fletcher, Chair, will lead the meeting. Voters will have another opportunity for comment before announcements and adjournment. Residents requiring assisted hearing devices for the meeting are asked to contact the Office of the First Selectman at 203-270-4201.
