Newtown Candidate Profile: Lisa Schwartz Edmond Town Hall Board

Schwartz shares with Patch why she should be elected to the Edmond Town Hall Board of Managers.

NEWTOWN, CT — The 2019 municipal election is heating up in Newtown and there are plenty of races with candidates eager to serve in elected office.

Newtown Patch asked candidates to answer questions about their campaigns and will be publishing candidate profiles as election day draws near.

Lisa Schwartz is running for the Edmond Town Hall Board of Managers as a Democrat. She has been a substitute teacher in Newtown for the past seven years and has experience on the Board of Ethics, Legislative Council and Board of Education.

In my capacity as a member of the Edmond Town Hall Board of Managers, it is my responsibility to be a trustworthy steward of our town's beloved Edmond Town Hall. My goal is to help this building achieve its highest potential as a thriving center of live entertainment for the taxpayers of Newtown.

What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

In order to achieve this goal, I intend to work cooperatively with my fellow board members to attract sponsors and artists alike who appreciate the vast potential of this theater.

List other issues that define your campaign platform:

I will faithfully execute all of the tasks required to be a responsible steward of the Edmond Town Hall. I will also make sure that I take my fiduciary responsibilities seriously and I am always looking for the best ways to maximize our funds.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

I served four years on the Legislative Council, and nine years on the Board of Education. During that time, I believe I fulfilled all of my duties in a thoughtful and honest way.

The best advice ever shared with me was ...

Never lose sight of the fact that you are serving the public good. Doing the right thing comes before anything else, always.

What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

In addition to serving in elected and volunteer capacities, I am also the town Poet Laureate. I am dedicated to this community in many ways and one of them just happens to be poetic.
