The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it:
I think there are a number of issues facing Newtown. If I had to select the most pressing I would say it is affordability. With a 34.9 percent mill rate, Newtown has one of the highest rates of surrounding towns with no decrease in sight. How do we differentiate and draw people into this great town? Our schools are no longer ranking as high as they had in the past. Our roads are in deperate need of maintenance, These are just a few of the issues I would like to address. This will take a firm hand, and to navigate and grow while remaining the quaint town that we all know and love. It will take more than me alone and working as a team player is an area where I excel. I have done this successfully throughout my sales career working with a cross functional team toward a common goal.
Critical differences between me and my opponents:
Everybody who volunteers for these jobs should be commended. I hope we find more common ground than differences. As a conservative, I will strive to find the most fiscally sound manner in all situations. I will be hyper aware of the taxpayer's dollars. I can't promise I will be able to taxes, but I can guarantee that I will fight for smarter spending and scrutinize budgeting to make sure the best interest of the taxpayers are represented.
Accomplishments:
As one of the parents who spoke up early and loudly last year when our children were subjected to full time remote learning, I was a member of the coalition that got our children back into the classroom full time, in person, on January 4th. Through this experience, and I realized that I wanted to become more involved with the local government in Newtown.
What else would you like voters to know about you?
I would like people to know that I am a person who will fight for what is right. I am not afraid to speak up for what I believe will benefit the town and the taxpayers. I have a busy life with two small children and a full time career, I am not running for Legislative Council to fill space and time, I am running because this is my home, I have two children in the public school system and I have a vested interest in this community. If given the chance, and I will work hard to achieve results that will beneift all of the voters of Newtown.
