Newtown Eligible for Federal Assistance: Malloy
The financial aid follows the approval of Malloy's request to have the region declared a federal disaster area.

NEWTOWN, CT -- Municipalities such as Newtown which were hit hard by the macroburst, tornadoes and other rough weather on May 15 will be able to receive financial assistance, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced Monday. The financial aid follows the approval of Malloy’s request to have the region declared a federal disaster area.
“This declaration will provide much needed financial assistance to our municipalities and the state,” Malloy said in a release. “These storms had a devastating impact, causing significant damage that is still being cleaned up and repaired months later. I thank the federal government for continuing to be a partner in these efforts.”
Rob Sibley, Deputy Director of Emergency Management for Newtown, said: “This is a good step towards Newtown’s recovery process. The announcement identifies the recognition of the storm and the level of damage it inflicted on Newtown and its citizens.”
