Newtown Families Urge Lawmakers to #HonorWithAction on Gun Violence

The Newtown Foundation and Faiths United to Prevent Gun Violence held a third annual vigil for all victims of gun violence in Washington, D.C. Wednesday.

The vigil was held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and more than 60 family members of victims and survivors of gun violence attended.

The Newtown Action Alliance was also in D.C. meeting with congressional members.

U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal along with other members of the Connecticut congressional delegation met with victims of gun violence and the Newtown Action Alliance.

U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said that an omnibus bill shouldn’t be passed unless the ban on gun violence research is ended.

“With 30,000 gun deaths every year, America is in the middle of a public health epidemic,” she said. “Therefore, I call on the omnibus negotiators to remove the outrageous ban on federal research on gun violence.”

U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) brought up a comment he made shortly after the San Bernardino mass shooting about how it will take more than platitudes to stem gun violence.

“What I believe is that it isn’t enough anymore in order to just say we care, you have to do something to show you care,” he said.
