Newtown Firefighters Rescue 5 Cats, 2 Dogs, From House Blaze
One firefighter suffered a minor injury during the response, which included all five of Newtown's fire companies.
NEWTOWN, CT — All five Newtown fire companies were dispatched Friday evening to tackle a residential fire on Brushy Hill Road.
The call came in at 5:53 p.m. First responders from Dodgingtown Volunteer Fire Company No. 1.found smoke rising from the residence, and further investigation determined there was a fire in the basement that extended through the floor joists. There was damage to the floor above, and smoke damage throughout the residence.
All human occupants were out of the residence by the time the first trucks arrived. Firefighters rescued five cats and two dogs from the burning home. One firefighter was slightly injured, according to a report from Botsford Fire Rescue.

Crews worked until 9:43 p.m. to extinguish and overhaul the fire, according to Newtown Hook and Ladder fire officials.
