Newtown Flag Trees Memorial Owner to Host Sept. 11 Tribute
A memorial ceremony will be held on Friday September 11 at the home of Mr. Howard Lasher to mark the 14th anniversary of the tragedy.

The 14th Annual September 11 ceremony to honor the lives of those tragically lost that day will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Lasher, 68 Dodgingtown Road, Newtown. The service will take place on Friday, Sept. 11, 2015 at 8 a.m.
The home is the site of the Flag Trees Memorial on Route 302.
In September of 2001 Mr. Lasher commissioned artist David Merrill to paint a tribute to his 10 dear friends that he lost that day. In October of 2001, just 6 weeks later, Merrill completed the flag tribute on Mr. Lasher’s property in memory of The American Stock Exchange brokers, and all of the others, who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. Nine were members and former members from the American Stock Exchange. The tenth person was Andrew Golkin, a trader a Cantor Fitzgerald who was the son of an American Stock Exchange Specialist Gerald Golkin.

Mr. Lasher said, “The American Flag Memorial is about the people who tragically lost their lives on September 11 and also for all those men and women who have given their lives in defense of our great nation. Whether it be Iraq, Afghanistan and all the wars. The American Flag Memorial represents what they died for.”
