Newtown And Greater Danbury Chambers Of Commerce Plan To Merge
The plan to merge the Newtown and Greater Danbury Chambers Of Commerce has been in motion over the past year, officials said.
NEWTOWN, CT — The Chamber of Commerce of Newtown is merging with the Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce.
The move is effective September 1.
Officials said the decision to join the two organizations "was not made lightly, but in today’s environment it is important to achieve scale and an eye toward the growth of our business sectors."

The plan has been in motion over the past year, according to a news release from GDCC.
"Danbury provides an exceptional long-term vision for the greater business community while also recognizing Newtown's thriving, local business owners and consumers," said Judith Miller, chairwoman of the Chamber of Commerce of Newtown. "Coming together with GDCC will support our current mission and allow expansion for our members that want to reach into surrounding areas, as well as participate in advantageous networking and educational events."

The GDCC currently serves the 10 towns of Bethel, Bridgewater, Brookfield, Danbury, Newtown, New Fairfield, New Milford, Sherman, Redding, and Ridgefield.
"Our economy is only as strong as our businesses and workforce," said GDCC president and C.E.O. P.J. Prunty said. "Working together as a region with our neighboring towns, we can continue to strengthen and grow the Greater Danbury community."
