Newtown H.S. Students Speak Out at March for Our Lives in D.C.

Newtown residents and the memory of the Sandy Hook shootings figured prominently in the national March for Our Lives held in Washington.

NEWTOWN, CT — Newtown students, teachers and parents addressed an estimated crowd of 800,000 protesters in Washington, D.C. today at the March for Our Lives rally, the Washington Post reports. The local residents included members of the Newtown Action Alliance, Team 26, Sandy Hook Promise and other activist groups which formed shortly after the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in December, 2012. The rally, urging changes to the nations's gun laws, was prompted by the school shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, and emulated on lesser scales in 800 communities worldwide.

The Newtown Action Alliance fielded seven buses, reported WFSB in Washington. Among the contingent were 200 Newtown High School students and Sandy Hook survivors. The Alliance tweeted a photo of some of their members unfurling a banner declaring solidarity with Stoneman Douglas.
