Newtown High Graduate Kyle Wilcox Picked in MLB Draft

Wilcox was picked in the sixth round of the 2015 MLB draft.

Editor’s Note: We first ran this story on June 9 but ICYMI a Newtown high graduate has been picked in the MLB draft. 

The Seattle Mariners have picked 2012 Newtown High School graduate and Bryant University pitcher Kyle Wilcox in the MLB draft.

Wilcox was picked in the sixth round and is the 185th pick in the draft. He is also the first person with ties to the state to be picked in the 2015 draft.

ESPN reports that Wilcox led the Newtown High baseball team to the 2012 SWC Championship and was picked to play in the SWC Underclassmen All-Star Basketball game.

During his three years at Bryant, Wilcox has a 10-6 record, according to ESPN. He has also only allowed two home runs during that period.

His ERA is 3.24, according to the Bryant University Bulldogs website.
