Newtown High Sisters Dominate Weightlifting Competition

The two qualified for the American Open thanks to their impressive performances.

Two Newtown High School students each took home the gold at the Nutmeg State Open Olympic Weightlifting Champions.

Both Celia and Romy Gold got gold medals for the snatch and clean-and-jerk lifts, according to the News-Times.

Celia lifted 158 pounds in the snatch and 194 in the clean-and-jerk. Romy lifted 154 and 182 respectively.

The impressive lifts were enough to qualify them for the American Open, which will take place in December in Reno, NV.

Celia is ranked fifth internationally for CrossFit in her age group and Romy is seventh in her group.
