Newtown Historical Society to Host Open House
Step back in time with costumed docents for a tour of Newtown's very own house museum.

NEWTOWN, CT -- The Newtown Historical Society will have an open house event on Sunday, May 20 from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Matthew Curtiss House Museum.
Maintained by the Historical Society as a house museum, the Society's collections on display are intended to represent the house throughout its life, not just the period of the Curtiss ownership. All the items in the house reflect either a direct Newtown connection or are examples of things that might well have been used in the town, whether for work, play, or to celebrate an occasion.
The open house will also feature a special event of making artificial flowers according to instructions from Colonial Williamsburg's Conservation Department and the great French Encyclopedia of Diderot, published from 1751 - 1772. Eighteenth century formulas used fabric, paper, wire, and found materials such as feathers. A donation of $2.00 is requested to cover materials.
