Suspect Arrested After Trying To Break Into CVS In Newtown: PD

The suspect is a Newtown man who also tried to run from the cops, according to authorities.

NEWTOWN, CT — A 23-year-old Newtown man was arrested on burglary charges early Monday after police said he tried to break into the drive-thru window of the CVS Pharmacy on Queen Street in Newtown.

Mark J. Zavatsky, of Queen Street, was charged with criminal attempt at third-degree larceny; possession of burglary tools; and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

The incident began at about 1:30 a.m. when Newtown police were alerted to the pharmacy by a broken glass alarm at the drive-thru.

"Officers arrived on [the] scene and located a suspect attempting to gain entry to the building," Newtown police said in a statement.

The suspect, later identified as Zavatsky, then tried to run from the store, but was caught after a brief chase.

Zavatsky was held in lieu of bail of $5,000 and was scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Monday.
