Newtown Man Arrested Following Complaint Involving Minor: Police
The man was arrested after alleged inappropriate communications with a person he believed was under the age of 16, according to police.
NEWTOWN, CT — A 48-year-old Newtown man was arrested Friday after police said he engaged in inappropriate communications with a person he believed to be under the age of 16.
The Newtown Police Department said it received a complaint on Feb. 26 about alleged communications between Paul Melnick and an individual he believed to be younger than 16. The incident was investigated by the department's patrol and detective divisions.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant on multiple charges, including illegal sexual communication with a minor, first-degree enticement of a minor by computer and misrepresentation of age to entice a minor.

Melnick was arrested Feb. 27 and held on a $75,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on March 2, according to police.
Police said the investigation remains active and no additional information will be released at this time.
