Newtown Nurse Practitioner Named 'Provider of the Year'

NEWTOWN, CT — A nurse practitioner with the Danbury High School School-Based Health Center has been named "Provider of the Year" by the Connecticut Association of School Based Health Centers.

Karen White, APRN, 57, of Newtown, said she was "very humbled" by the award. "It’s been an honor to serve these kids."

White has worked at the Danbury High School School-Based Health Center since 2001. She joined Connecticut Institute For Communities, Inc. (CIFC), in 2013, when CIFC, a Danbury-based nonprofit, took over operations of the high school’s school-based health center from the city of Danbury. White also currently works at CIFC’s school-based health center at Newtown Middle School.

"Over the years, I have been a witness to her dedication to assisting students with improving their health, well-being, and achieving academic success," said Melanie Bonjour, CIFC school-based-health center manager and president of the Connecticut Association of School Based Health Centers. in a release. "Karen is a true advocate for the students served through our health center, empowering each one to be the best they can."

White will be honored on May 10 at the Connecticut Association of School Based Health Centers conference in Southbury. The CIFC Board of Directors joined in honoring White through passage of an official award of “Commendation for Distinguished Service” at its board meeting on March 27. CIFC manages five school-based health centers – Danbury High School, Henry Abbott Technical High School, Rogers Park Middle School, Broadview Middle School and Newtown Middle School. There are about 100 school-based health centers statewide.
