The crimes are occurring in the early morning and involve unlocked motor vehicles.

NEWTOWN, CT -- Police have taken to social media to warn residents to lock their cars after two motor vehicles were stolen in one incident and residents found people rifling through their car in another.

Police are investigating the early Wednesday morning theft of two motor vehicles from the garage of a residence on Butternut Ridge. The vehicles were unlocked and keys were in the vehicles.

On Thursday morning at approximately 1:35, a resident on Taunton Lane reported people going through their unlocked cars parked in their driveway. Police say the resident then confronted the suspects, who fled in a SUV-like vehicle with a very loud exhaust.
