NEWTOWN, CT — The Law Enforcement Torch Run will be passing through Newtown the first week in June.

The annual event benefits the Special Olympics and takes place this year June 1-3. Newtown police officers will be carrying the "Flame of Hope" through Newtown on Friday, June 3, starting at the Dodgingtown Market and finishing at the Blue Colony Diner.

The torch run is the largest public awareness vehicle and grassroots fundraiser for the Special Olympics. Annually, more than 109,000 law enforcement members carry the "Flame of Hope," symbolizing "courage and celebration of diversity uniting communities around the globe," according to the organization's website.
