Newtown Police Arrest Log For July 31 - Aug. 6

NEWTOWN, CT — Charges of harassment and strangulation were at the top of the Newtown Police Department's arrest log last week.
Just before 7 p.m. on July 28, the Newtown police received a report of a vehicle being driven erratically along South Main Street and Button Shop Road.
The officers say they watched the vehicle as it passed the Newtown Police Headquarters and followed it, reporting that it swerved over the center dividing line and pulled into the Citgo gas station at 151 South Main Street.

Police then made contact with the driver, Alejandro Chavez Hernandez, 39, of Bridgeport. Following an investigation, police took Hernandez into their custody and charged him with DUI, failure to driver in proper lane, and driving without a license. After posting 10 percent of his $1,000 bond, Hernandez was scheduled to appear before Danbury Superior Court Aug. 11.
While performing checks on local businesses around 2:00 a.m. on July 31, Newtown police officers noticed that the registered owner of a vehicle parked at the Blue Colony Diner had an active warrant for her arrest out of New Mexico for embezzlement of a motor vehicle.

The police located the owner of the vehicle, Shinelle Rojas, 35, of East Street in Plainville, and placed her under arrest as a fugitive from justice. Rojas was held on $150,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court later that day.
On July 30, police charged Kenneth Maldonado, 21, of Walnut Tree Hill Road in Sandy Hook, with misuse of three 911 calls for "false alarms." Police say Maldonado told 911 dispatch, "I made the whole thing up" and later told officers that he "had nothing better to do." Maldonado is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 13.
On July 27, Michael Ottoshavett, 44, of Huntington Road in Newtown, turned himself into Newtown police on an outstanding arrest warrant.
Ottoshavett's arrest stemmed from an incident in 2022 in which he allegedly accepted payment for work that was never performed. He was processed and released on a written promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Aug. 10.
On July 31, Keslley Rivera, 34, of Wolfpit Avenue in Norwalk, turned herself into the Newtown Police Department on an outstanding warrant. Rivera was taken into custody and charged with criminal violation of a protective order and second-degree harassment.
Rivera posted a 10 percent cash bond of $1,000 and was scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Aug. 1.
Shortly before midnight on Aug. 2, Newtown police officers responded to a report of a cry for help in the area of 60 Osborn Hill Road.
First responders discovered a domestic disturbance unfolding at 56 Osborn Hill Road. After further investigation, police took John T. Willmott, 55, into custody and charged him with disorderly conduct, violation of a probation order, third-degree assault, and third-degree strangulation.
Willmott was held in lieu of a $25,000 bond which he was unable to post, and scheduled to appear before Danbury Superior Court on Aug. 3.
Newtown police officers were dispatched to the area of 36 Tunnel Road for a report of an unknown person sleeping in a motor vehicle Wednesday evening.
During the on-scene investigation that followed, police say they discovered that the man was Joshua Adams, 32, of Orchard Hill Road. According to police, there was an outstanding domestic violence arrest warrant for Adams, and he was taken into custody.
Adams was charged with third-degree assault, third-degree strangulation, second-degree breach of peace and interfering with an officer. He was held in lieu of a court set bond of $25,000, which he was unable to post, according to police, and scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Aug. 3.
The Newtown Police Department is in possession of a found Apple iPhone. The phone was found in the area of the Newtown Transfer Station, 199 South Main Street, on July 28. The phone's screen saver has a picture of two men on it. The owner may contact the Newtown Police Department at 203-426-5841.
