Newtown Police Department Welcomes New Officers
Anthony DiGiovanni and Nina Ongaro were surrounded by family and friends as they were sworn in as the newest members of the department.

NEWTOWN, CT — The Newtown Police Department swore in two new officers in a ceremony Friday.
Anthony DiGiovanni and Nina Ongaro were surrounded by family and friends as they were sworn in as the newest members of the department.
DiGiovanni is from Brewster, NY, where he grew up and attended high school. After high school, he served 4 years in the U.S. Army. Following discharge, he became a member of the New York Police Department and worked out of a precinct in the Bronx for the last three years, according to a post on the Newtown PD Facebook page.

Ongaro hails from Brookfield. She is a "star softball player," with a degree in Criminology from Western Connecticut State University, according to police officials.
"Newtown is a beautiful town and I am really excited to begin my career here. Becoming an officer has always been my dream and I am so happy that I have this opportunity," Ongaro said.
