Multiple Newtown police officers as well as state troopers joined in pursuit of the car as it navigated side streets, eventually making it onto Interstate 84. Police deployed tire deflation devices to no avail, as their quarry eluded them when it exited I-84 in the Waterbury area., according to the police report.

Investigators learned that the Honda was stolen earlier in the night, and found the vehicle abandoned in Waterbury. Police later processed the car for evidence.
"Based on surveillance footage from the gas station, it appears two individuals attempted to steal the ATM machine located within the gas station, but were scared off when they saw the police cruiser approaching the station," Lt. Aaron Bahamonde wrote in the report. "It was great, responsive, police work by our officers and we are confident that the suspects will be caught based on further investigative steps."
