Newtown Police Looking For Woman Who Tried To Cash A Fraudulent Check
A sharp-eyed teller spotted the discrepancy and called the police.

NEWTON, CT — Police are seeking the public's assistance in their investigation of a woman they say attempted to cash a fraudulent check.
The incident occurred Monday, shortly after 1:30 in the afternoon.
According to the report posted on Facebook, a woman in a black wig and dark-rimmed glasses drove up to the drive-thru window at Newtown Savings Bank on Church Hill Road in a black Volkswagen Atlas with no discernible registration plates. Police said the teller spotted the discrepancy immediately and called them.

Upon the arrival of the police, the suspect fled "at a high rate of speed," over a curb and through the parking lot of Caraluzzi's Market. Officers did not pursue out of "consideration for the safety of the public," but observed the car moving southbound on Route 25 into Monroe.
Police say the activity was similar to other cases being investigated in the area.
