Newtown Police Warn Residents Of New Phone Scam

NEWTOWN, CT — Police are warning Newtown residents to be on the lookout for phone scams involving the Newtown PD phone number.

In a statement released on social media, the Newtown Police Department says it is investigating scam phone calls to residents in town that appear to be "spoofed" from 203-426-5841, the department's main line.

"If you receive a phone call from someone using this number that you do not believe to be a Newtown Police Officer, please hang up and call us back immediately to verify," police advise.

A Newtown Police Officer will always identify themselves by name and rank when they call a resident on the phone, according to the statement.
