Newtown Resident Julia Wasserman Dies at 91

Wasserman was a former nine-term state representative.

Newtown resident and former state representative Julia Wasserman died Tuesday at the age of 91, the Connecticut House Republicans announced.

Wasserman served as state representative from 1991-2008. She was born in Germany, where she escaped the Nazis as a girl.

“Her inimitable style and presence have been missed since she left the House roughly a decade ago. Her family and friends are in our thoughts today,” House Republicans said in a statement.

“Julia Wasserman was an original—an original thinker and original doer. She rejected stereotypes & sought solutions. She is greatly missed,” U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal said in a statement.
