Newtown Teacher Charged with Possessing a Gun on School Grounds Resigns: Report
The teacher had been placed on paid administrative leave back in April.

Newtown, CT - The Newtown Middle School teacher charged with bringing a loaded .45 caliber gun to school on April 6, 2016 has resigned, according to numerous reports Saturday.
Newtown's schools superintendent confirmed to NBC Connecticut that Jason M. Adams, 46, did resign at the end of the just completed school year. He was placed on administrative leave back in April.
He has pleaded not guilty to the charge of having a weapon on school property. That case is still pending.

Adams had a valid permit for the gun but state law prohibits firearms on school grounds, NBC Connecticut reports.
Adams was arrested and charged after a school employee notified a security guard who called police to the school. Adams, an 8th grade science teacher, was placed on paid administrative leave, according to The News Times.

The Newtown Action Alliance back in April shared their concern in a statement sent to Patch:
“Our community is still reeling from the tragic shooting that occurred on Dec. 14, 2012. Therefore, we are shocked and enormously disappointed that a middle school teacher from Newtown would bring his gun onto school property.”
