Newtown Weather Alert: Near Whiteout Driving Conditions and 'Hazardous Weather Outlook' Issued

The National Weather Service has issued a “Hazardous Weather Outlook” for Fairfield County for Friday, Jan. 9, 2015.

Snow showers could produce accumulations of one to two inches and are causing near whiteout conditions making driving extremely dangerous. The State Department of Transportation (CT DOT) has reported numerous accidents across the state and is urging drivers to use caution.

  • Today - Snow, high near 26. Wind chill values between 5 and 15. Breezy, with a southwest wind 13 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
  • Tonight - Clear, with a low around 7. Wind chill values between -5 and zero. West wind around 8 mph.
  • Saturday - Sunny and cold, with a high near 20. Wind chill values between -5 and 5. West wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.
  • Saturday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 7. West wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight.
  • Sunday - Mostly cloudy, with a high near 31. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 9 mph in the morning.
  • Sunday Night - A chance of snow after midnight. Cloudy, with a steady temperature around 27. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
