Newtown Woman Surrenders After Shooting And Stand-Off: Police
A Newtown woman has surrendered to police following a Christmas Eve shooting and 5-hour stand-off at a Boggs Hill Road home.

NEWTOWN, CT — A Newtown woman surrendered to police early Christmas morning following a shooting and stand-off at a Boggs Hill Road residence.
Police summoned to the scene shortly before 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve found the caller on the front porch with multiple gunshot wounds, according to a statement from Newtown Police Lt. Scott Smith.
Officers were able to pull the victim to safety as the suspect retreated into the residence, Smith said. The victim was transported by Newtown Ambulance to Danbury Hospital and was last reported in stable condition.

The suspect, Meghan Gouveia, 32, of Newtown, retreated into the home where she remained barricaded until turning herself in a little before 1 a.m.
Police charged Gouveia with first-degree assault, unlawful discharge of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm, two counts of risk of injury to a minor, first-degree recless endangerment, and negligent storage of a firearm. She is being held on a $1,500,000 bond.

"Our officers acted selflessly and put themselves in harms way to pull the victim to safety. Additionally, our department is grateful to the surrounding police departments who responded to this incident and assisted in its peaceful conclusion," Smith said.
