Newtown's Plastic Bag Ordinance: What You Need To Know

Connecticut has its own single-use plastic bag phase out, but Newtown's will happen sooner.

NEWTOWN, CT — Newtown's own plastic bag ordinance will fully go into effect Oct. 28. The ordinance bans businesses from providing or selling plastic single-use checkout bags.

Businesses can sell recyclable paper bags at a rate of 10 cents per bag. They can also provide or sell reusable bags of other materials. The fee is kept by the business.

The ordinance is technically already in effect, but allows a four-month window for retailers to use their existing bag inventory.
