Nighthawks Win SWC Championship in Football, Advance to States this Week

Nighthawks are slated to play Xavier High School this Saturday in the Semi-Final round of state competition, following SWC championship win.

The undefeated Newtown Nighthawks will go up against the 7-3 Xavier Falcons this week in the CIAC Class LL Football Semi-Finals. The game will be held Saturday, December 6th, at Blue and Gold Stadium at Newtown High School. Kickoff is at 2 pm. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults.

The Nighthawks have had an outstanding season, most recently defeating Brookfield in the SWC championship game with a score of 42-0. The team as a whole played an incredible game to capture their third straight SWC championship. NHS senior captain Julian Dunn tied the state record of 47 touchdown receptions during the game against Brookfield, only to break it in the next game against Masuk.

Success on the state level looks very promising for the Nighthawks, as they are ranked fourth in the state. The winner of this Saturday’s game will play against the winner of the Shelton-Hall game on December 12-13 in the next level of the state competition.
