Obituary: Aida Oliva Val, 96, Of Sandy Hook

Aida had a great passion for daily mass and prayer. She and her husband owned and operated the John A. Val Tire Company.

NEWTOWN, CT — Aida Oliva Val, 96, wife of the late John A. Val of Sandy Hook passed away peacefully on May 11, 2022 in the comfort of her home with her daughter at her side.

Aida was born in New Bedford, MA on June 24, 1925, daughter of the late Jose and Patrocinia Gomes Oliva. She attended Danbury High School. She married John A. Val on October 11, 1947 in Danbury and celebrated 53 beautiful years together. Her main focus was always her family. She was a gentle, loving presence in their lives. She will be greatly missed.

Aida had a great passion for daily mass and prayer. She and her husband owned and operated the John A. Val Tire Company until she retired in 1989. She was a member of the Portuguese Cultural Center. An original parishioner of St. Gregory the Great Church.

Aida was predeceased in death by her husband, John A. Val, son, Julian Val Sr., sister, Sally Miguel, brothers, Jack and Rico Oliva and nephew Larry Miguel Jr.

Aida is survived by daughter Diane Val Najjar and husband Wayne of Danbury. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Kristen Najjar Lanese (Gary) of Brookfield, CT, Dawn Val Schultz (David) of GA, John Val (Jennifer) of IL and Julian Val Jr. (Christina) of New Milford, CT. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, a daughter-in-law Adelina Val of São Miguel, Azores, three nieces and one nephew.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 16, 2022 at 11:00am at St. Gregory the Great Church in Danbury. Burial is private. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Gregory the Great Church, 85 Great Plain Rd., Danbury, CT 06811, The Office of Radio & Television Archdiocese of Hartford, 15 Peach Orchard Rd., Prospect, CT 06712 and/or to RVNA Health Hospice, 27 Governor St., Ridgefield, CT 06877.
