Obituary: Barbara Jeanne Johnson, 88, Of Newtown

NEWTOWN, CT — Barbara Jeanne Johnson, of Newtown passed away peacefully on Feb. 19, 2023 at the age of 88. She leaves behind many friends and loved ones who will miss her dearly.

She was predeceased by her father Warren Reid, her mother Margaret (Reid) Hoffman, as well as her sister Judy (Reid) Popp, her husband Frank Johnson, and her son-in-law George Jay Faulkner. She is survived by her sister Margie Reid, her brother Bruce Reid, his wife Nicki, as well as her daughter Jennifer Johnson, granddaughter Lauren (Faulkner) Jacobs and her husband Brian, granddaughter Kate Faulkner, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Barbara was born in Spokane, WA, on July 13, 1934. She graduated from West Valley High School in 1952. She met the love of her life, Frank Johnson, and was married to him on June 11, 1954. After having their daughter Jennifer, they moved to Massachusetts and eventually settled in Newtown. Barbara worked a variety of jobs over the years including Cashman Drug, Caldor, Read’s, Jordan Marsh, Duracell, and Collectibles. She was a member of the Hawleyville Fire Department Auxiliary for many years, and loved her time in The Any Idiot Can Do It crafting group. She enjoyed sailing, skiing, sewing, gardening, bird watching, and her soap Days of Our Lives.

Visitation and calling hours will be held at Honan Funeral Home in Newtown on Thursday, March 2, from 4-7 p.m., with burial to follow in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask for donations to be made to the Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Department.
