Obituary: Doris J. Michels, 96, Of Newtown

NEWTOWN, CT — Doris J. Michels, 96, of Newtown, wife of the late Harold Michels, died peacefully at Danbury Hospital with her children at her side on Saturday, July 16. She was the beloved mother of Karen Yarish (Charles), Kevin Michels (Dorothy), and Janet McKay (Gary Bocaccio). She was born on June 16, 1926, daughter of the late Francis and Mabel (Rosset) Maynard.
Doris worked for many years as a banker for the Chase Manhattan Bank in New York. She made her home in Brooklyn, NY for 85 years, moving to the Danbury community for the last ten years. She wintered in Florida with her sisters for 16 years and also enjoyed walking, bowling, shopping, traveling, and cruising. Her happiest moments were spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will be received at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Wednesday, July 20, between 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 20t at noon at St. Rose of Lima in Newtown. Cremation and Interment in St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY will take place at a later date.
The family would like to thank the staff at Danbury Hospital's Pulmonary Care Unit, Filosa Nursing Home and Maplewood of Newtown for their kind and compassionate care.
