Obituary: James John Chevalier, 58, Longtime Newtown Resident

Jim will always be remembered as a selfless servant, dedicated husband and father, always wanting to help others.

NEWTOWN, CT — James John Chevalier of Newtown passed away peacefully at the age of 58 alongside family on Sept. 1, 2023. Jim was born on Nov. 22, 1964, in Warwick, RI, grew up in North Kingstown, RI and was a longtime Newtown resident with his wife and daughters. He was the husband of his beloved wife Deborah (Danks) Chevalier, originally from Darien, and father of two incredible daughters Jessica and Ashley. Jim was the son of the late Dorothy (King) Chevalier and is survived by his father Robert; brother Peter (Kerri); brother Andrew (Carol); and sister Sue Idskou. He also leaves behind his surviving father-in-law David Danks and late mother-in-law Patricia R Danks; sister-in-law Dana Lyn Danks (Wayne); brother-in-law David and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends from both the Danks and Chevalier families. Jim loved his late dog Brownie and surviving dog Bosco.

Jim grew up in North Kingstown, RI, where he was an all-star baseball player and a talented hockey player. He became an accomplished carpenter and moved to Greenwich nearly 3 decades ago as a construction foreman. He went on to pursue a life of service as a professional firefighter for over two decades with the Long Ridge Fire Company of Stamford. Jim met his beautiful wife Deborah over 20 years ago and was married for 16 years. Jim loved the ocean and was an avid scuba diver. He and Deb enjoyed many days on Block Island, RI, where Jim spent a number of summers working as a boat captain and dive instructor. Beyond his life of service with the fire department and as a husband and father, Jim spent many years as a Habitat for Humanity volunteer supporting numerous projects.

Calling hours will be 3-6 p.m. with a Catholic Prayer Service at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2023 at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, CT 06470.

A Celebration of Life and Memorial Mass will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023 at St. Bernard Church, 275 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown, RI 02852.
