Obituary: Janice Edith Scott, 75, of Newtown

Before retiring in 2008, Janice worked for 10 years with Cartus Relocation in Danbury.

NEWTOWN, CT -- Janice Edith Scott, 75, of Newtown, passed away peacefully on July 19 surrounded by family. Janice (Jan) was born in New York Hospital, New York, NY on November 1, 1942, daughter of Henry Busch and Muriel (Young) Busch.

Janice was raised in the Astoria section of Queens, NY and graduated from Julia Richman High School, New York, New York in 1960.On April 5, 1963 Janice married Stanley (Stan) Suhar at Grace Lutheran church in Astoria where the couple originally met. During this time the couple was involved in the church with Janice teaching Sunday school.

In 1967 Janice and Stan moved to North Plainfield, New Jersey, and in 1970, Janice gave birth to a son, Todd E. Suhar of Southbury. In 1971 the family moved to Pittstown, New Jersey where Janice resided until 1987. During this time Janice was a dedicated wife and mother. She enjoyed gardening, art, antiquing, classical music, yoga and spending time with family and friends.

In 1980 Janice and Todd lost Stan to an untimely death. Shortly thereafter Janice started a small cleaning and home improvement business, JanStan Services as a means to support both her and Todd. Also during this time, Janice pursued her goal of obtaining a college degree by taking evening classes at Raritan Valley Community College, where she obtained an Associate's degree in 1985.

In 1981, Janice met Dennis Scott, originally of Norwich, New York. Dennis and Janice met at the Unitarian Church in Morristown and were later married on September 6, 1986 at St. Paul Lutheran church in Flemington, New Jersey. The couple with her son, Todd, relocated to Newtown, Connecticut in 1987 and resided in the Sandy Hook section of town. During this time, Dennis and Janice enjoyed hiking, travelling, exercising at Club NewFit, and sharing a mutual love for animals.

Janice continued to pursue her professional and education goals, by becoming a licensed Real Estate Agent and graduating with honors from Western Connecticut University with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Justice and Law Administration in 1993. Before retiring in 2008, Janice worked for 10 years with Cartus Relocation in Danbury.

In 2016, Janice and Dennis moved from their Sandy Hook home of over 25 years to the Woods at Newtown townhouses where they continued to enjoy retirement with frequent visits with family and friends.

Janice is survived by her husband, Dennis, son, Todd and his wife, Danielle Suhar of Southbury, along with four grandchildren, Emma, Hunter, Paige, and Jonah. Janice is also survived by her brother, Matthew Busch of Malvern, New York and three nieces, Elyse Haller, Lori Busch, and Andrea Busch.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday July 25, 2018 at 11:00a.m. in Christ the King Lutheran Church, 85 Mount Pleasant Road, Newtown. Interment will follow in Newtown Village Cemetery. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown Tuesday July 24 from 5:00p.m. to 8:00p.m.
