Former Sandy Hook Fire Chief Passes Away

Michael Lucas Jr., age 92, was a life member and former chief of the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue.

SANDY HOOK, CT — Michael Lucas Jr., age 92, passed away Fri., Sept. 28, at Danbury Hospital surrounded by loved ones. He was a longtime resident of Sandy Hook with Josephine, his late wife for 68 years. He was a life member and former chief of the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue.

Mr. Lucas was born January 10, 1926 a son of the late Michael Lucas Sr,. and Grace Soule Lucas. He was employed at Fairfield Hills Hospital and the State of Connecticut as a driver for many years until his retirement. Prior to that, he served in the army during WWII in France and Germany. He was also active in his church, St Rose of Lima in Newtown as well as the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Lucas is survived by a son Michael Lucas, III of Stratford; a daughter, Susan Petty, and her husband Dennis of Sandy Hook; and two grandsons, John Petty and wife Jenna Cooper of New Milford and Robert Petty and wife Stacey Petty of Sandy Hook. He also had two great grandchildren, Camden Petty and Logan Petty.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Rose of Lima Church, Newtown Wed., Oct. 3 at 10:30 a.m. Interment in St. Rose Cemetery will be at a later time. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, on Tues., Oct. 2 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Memorial Donations may be made to Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Rocky Hill, CT 06067 www.alz.org, in memory of his wife Josephine Lucas.
