Obituary: Patricia McCarthy, 81, Of Newtown

Pat became a school nurse in Danbury Public Schools after moving to Newtown in 1978.

NEWTOWN, CT — Patricia McCarthy passed away on May 2 after a sudden illness. Pat was born on June 20, 1941, to the late Beatrice and Owen Colleary in New Rochelle, New York.

Pat shared 58 years of marriage with her husband, Walter. They were blessed with two children, Craig (married to Alison) and Kate Durante (married to Frank) and grandchildren Emma, Owen, Maggie, Lydia & Annie. Among Pat’s most cherished memories were the summer weeks together with her children and grandchildren at Long Beach Island, NJ each year. In addition, she is survived by her siblings Eileen (John), Michael (Anne), James Owen, Brian (Ann) and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Pat graduated from the Greenwich Hospital School of Nursing becoming an Operating Room nurse at New Rochelle Hospital. She became a school nurse in Danbury Public Schools after moving to Newtown in 1978 and served as a nurse with Ashlar Masonic Care in Newtown until she retired.

Pat was an active member of St Rose of Lima parish where she served as a Special Eucharistic Minister, in the Nurses Outreach Ministry and in the Confirmation Formation program. Pat also served in the Newtown Women’s Club in various capacities for over 20 years.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours from 5-8 pm on Friday, May 5th at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown. A memorial service will be held at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Pat’s memory to St Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road in Newtown.
