Obituary: Sidney Daniel Rockwell, 75, Of Newtown

NEWTOWN, CT — Sid was born in Albany, NY and raised in Fairfield. He attended Assumption Church, Holy Family Church, Osborne Hill School, Fairfield Woods School and Notre Dame High School. Sid grew up spending many summers at the family beach house in Lordship, CT. He graduated from the State University of New York, Cobleskill, with a degree in Animal Husbandry. Sid served briefly in the U.S. military, then moved to Californoa where he owned and operated a successful business. After 10 years he moved to Texas for a while and then to Vero Beach, FL for several years. He returned to Fairfield in the early 80s. Sid was well traveled, crossing the U.S. and Canada many times, as well as spending some time in Mexico and South America.
Sid was an avid follower of the PRCA Rodeo Circuit. He learned to ride bulls at the Double L Ranch near New Paltz, NY and rode in PRCA rodeos in California, Texas, New Jersey, Florida, Madison Suqare Garden and other places. Sid worked in the restaurant business at the Red Tail Hawk in Vero Beach, FL, Anna Capri in Fairfield, the Westport Country Club in Westport, and Captain’s Cove in Bridgeport. Sid also worked in sales and delivery for Wise Potato Chips and as a concrete inspector for Testwell Craig of Danbury.

Sid will be remembered for his intelligence, generosity, excellent sense of humor, kind, loving and respectful ways as a loyal husband and father and his excellent ear for outstanding music and musical artists. His main interests were rodeo, music, animals, cooking and his family.
Sid is survived by his wife, Lynda Somesla Rockwell, his daughter, Jessica Lyn Rockwell, both of Sandy Hook, his brother John Rockwell of Fairfield, his aunts, Cynthia Dube and Mimi Rixon of W. Hartford, and his aunt Marsha Fagan of Queensbury, NY. , as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Anne Virginia Fagan Rockwell, his father Sidney Daniel Rockwell, Jr. his brother Brian Rockwell and his niece Tammy (Tamarin) Rockwell. There will be a graveside service at Lawncroft Cemetery, 1730 Black Rock Turnpike, Fairfield, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 30, followed by a gathering for friends and family (Details for gathering will be given at service or reach out to the family).
