Obituary: Veronica (Ronnie) Parker, 96, Of Newtown

NEWTOWN, CT — Veronica (Ronnie) Parker 96, of Newtown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023 at Hancock Hall in Danbury. Ronnie was born July 19, 1927 in Manhattan, New York.

After graduating from Julia Richman High School, she went to work at General Reinsurance Corp. It was at work that Ronnie met and fell in love with Gerard (Jerry) Parker. Ronnie and Jerry were residents of Bethel and communicants of St. Mary’s Church until 1999 and then moved to Newtown. They celebrated 59 years of marriage until his passing in November 2011.

She enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening, needlepoint, watching cooking shows and spending time with her family and friends.

Ronnie is survived by her five children, Joanne Powers of Tinton Falls, New Jersey, Kenneth Parker and his wife Laurie, of Waterbury, Jeffery Parker and his wife Nancy, of Bethel, Bruce Parker and his wife Daphne, of Bridgewater and Kelly Parker Trim and her husband Darren of New Milford. Her pride and joy were her seven grandchildren, Tara Randi and her husband Dan, Kyle and his wife Stephanie, Brian and his wife Laura, Sean, Alison Parker, Ethan and Sydney Marie Trim. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren that delighted her all the time.

Ronnie was a kind, fun-loving soul, who was very proud of her Irish heritage and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Oct. 9 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Interment will follow at St. Rose Cemetery. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown Sunday Oct. 8 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the charity of your choice in her memory.
