Officials Accuse Contractor of Muscling Into Sandy Hook Relocation Project: Report

The developer said publicly that he was volunteering his efforts after the tragedy, but local officials say otherwise.

NEWTOWN, CT — In sworn depositions in Bridgeport Superior Court, Newtown and Monroe officials accused an area developer of muscling his way into the relocation project of the Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2013 and using the tragedy to further his energy company, reports Hearst Connecticut Media.

In January, Newtown's Board of Education Director Gino Faiella accused John Barbarotta, brother of Trumbull-based contractor Al Barbarotta, of threatening to shut down the move from the Sandy Hook Elementary School to the Chalk Hill School Building in Monroe if he did not get his way.

Monroe Public Works Director Chris Nowacki also stated he saw Barbarotta handing out flyers for his energy business Conveo Energy at Chalk Hill during the relocation project.
