Small business lender Matthew Mihalcik, 38, is running for re-election to the Legislative Council - District 2, as a Republican. He holds a BA in criminology from Central Connecticut State University, and his wife, Melissa, is the owner of Floral Designs by Melissa in Sandy Hook.

Elected to Newtown Board of Finance 2019 & Legislative Council 2021 Appointed to Newtown Economic Development Commission 2014-2019 & CH Booth Library Board of Trustees 2015-2019
Why are you seeking this office?
I am seeking reelection to the Legislative Council to continue the work I have done helping maintain our strong financial position and reasonable development.

The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is taxes, and I intend to continue to look at policy to ensure that we make sound financial decisions in the future. It is one thing to cut a budget but a better process starts with setting policy on best spending practices.

Experience both in local politics and finance

Stable taxes, good roads, properly funded schools and reasonable development

Strong fiscal responsibility both while on the Board of Finance and Council
