
SANDY HOOK, CT…The second annual Region 9 5K Run/2-Mile Walk For Knowledge will be held at Mixville Park in Cheshire, CT on October 13, 2013. The race starts at 9 a.m. and will consist of a 3.1-mile run, a 2-mile walk and a Kids’ Fun Run up the infamous sledding hill at the park.
Michael Porco, head instructor at Porco’s Karate Academy (newtownkarate.com), is no stranger to running events. As a long time supporter of community events like the Newtown Road Race and as race director of the Donut Dash Benefiting Newtown Youth & Family Services, Porco’s Karate Academy is always looking for new ways to support the community and its youth.
The Region 9 Run/Walk for Knowledge supports the World Tang Soo Do Foundation and Newtown Youth & Family Services. The World Tang Soo Do Foundation is a worldwide organization that continuously strives to make the funding of higher education achievable to all World Tang Soo Do Association martial arts students who display the passion and the desire to learn. Newtown Youth & Family Services is an organization focused on delivering positive youth development activities, counseling services, family strengthening programs and prevention initiatives for families living in Newtown, CT.

In addition to the fun racecourse, families and participants can enjoy music, food and fun. Post race there will be a martial arts demonstration followed by a K-9 Services demonstration for all to enjoy.
