Preview of 'Disney's Beauty and the Beast' at Newtown High School

“Once Upon a Time …..” These four words begin the story and move us into the magical world of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. NHS Drama is thrilled to have you step into this enchanted world as they transform their stage for this year’s musical, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. This timeless classic tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a selfish and unkind young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end. But time is running out. The Beast must learn his lesson soon or he and his household will be doomed forever. This “tale as old as time” is filled with spectacular costumes and sets. In addition to the amazing cast and crew, NHS’s wonderfully talented orchestra will provide the score which is a treat in itself. It is family theatre at its best and will bring the entire community together as we share in a story of love and acceptance teaching us that beauty is found within.

The show’s director, Jane Matson, says, “The reason that this story has endured for so long is that we all understand what it’s like to feel different. We all need to learn the lesson of accepting differences, not only in others but in ourselves as well. I could want nothing more for my students than for them to be comfortable with who they are as people and accepting of who others are.”
