Proposed Newtown Budget Comes With Increase

The proposed budget calls for more counselors and social workers to be hired.

NEWTOWN, CT — The proposed Newtown budget would come with a 2.3 percent spending increase. Among the biggest changes are proposals to hire more social workers and school counselors.

The budget also calls for $250,000 more in road repair money, according to the News-Times.

Residents can vote on the town and school portions of the budget on May 24.

Personnel changes at schools would result in a net loss of four full-time equivalent teaching positions and gain four non-teaching positions. The school system continues to see a drop in enrollment.
