'Risk A Verse' at The Meeting House, Main Street, Newtown, April 3, 2 pm

A Chance to Celebrate National Poetry Month.

“Risk A Verse” at The Meeting House, Main Street, Newtown, April 3, 2 pm

The Newtown Cultural Arts Commission, with Newtown Poet Laureate Lisa Schwartz, will present “Risk A Verse, with notable, or familiar, or both, members of the community reciting their favorite poems. The event is set for Sunday, April 3 at 2 pm at The Meeting House, Main Street, Newtown,.

Chair for the event, which is in honor of National Poetry Month, which is April and the largest literary celebration in the world, is Cultural Commission Member Tracy Van Buskirk.

Participants include First Selectman Pat Llodra, Police Chief James Viadero, Animal Control Officer Carolee Mason, Parks & Recreation Director Amy Mangold, Angelo Marini, owner of Sal e Pepe, Sydney Eddison, master gardener and author and Doug Russell, high school coach and teacher.

Also presenting their favorite poems will be Miles Aldrich, Walgreens cashier and greeter, Pat Barkman, artist and naturalist, Curtiss Clark, Editor of The Newtown Bee, Ann Cote, of Newtown Color Center, Kathy Ballwig Hollick, traffic control officer, Kevin Hoyt, athlete; Mel Kawakami, senior pastor, Newtown United Methodist Church, Brenda McKinley, director, C.H. Booth Library; Marsha Moskowitz, Sandy Hook resident and former school bus driver, Joe Proc, musician and wildlife rehabilitator, Dr Z. Michael Tahweh, founder and director, Kevin’s Community Center; first grade student Henri Quirk; and Laurie Veillette, a member of Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

The event is free with donations accepted to support the 2016 Newtown Arts Festival (http://www.newtownartsfestival.com/), which will have events throughout September and a two day celebration of the arts on the grounds of Fairfield Hills September 17 & 18.

A reception will follow the readings.
