'Safe Streets 4 All' Initiative Underway In Newtown

The goal of the national effort is to end serious crashes on the country's roadways.

NEWTOWN, CT — As part of its ongoing participation in the national "Safe Streets 4 All" initiative, Newtown is hosting a pair of presentations this week to help educate residents on the effort.

At 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Newtown Community Center, officials will hold a public forum on the effort. Newtown has received an $80,000 federal grant in support of the initiative, which is described as follows:

[Safe Streets 4 All] is a federal initiative from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), funded through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. It provides grants to local communities, such as Newtown, CT, to prevent roadway fatalities and serious injuries, with the ultimate goal of achieving zero roadway deaths through a Safe System Approach. This approach emphasizes designing roads and systems that account for human error, rather than solely relying on individual behavior changes.
