Sandy Hook Families Reject Alex Jones Settlement Offer: Report

NEWTOWN, CT — The eight families of victims from the Sandy Hook mass killing, who successfully sued conspiracy theorist Alex Jones for defamation, have rejected his settlement offer of $120,000 for each family, reported the New Haven Register.

In the rejection motion filed in court Tuesday, the families said Jones essentially was trying to avoid sitting for depositions. The internet media host has skipped depositions this month for what he claims are medical reasons.

"The so-called offer is a transparent and desperate attempt by Alex Jones to escape a public reckoning under oath with his deceitful, profit-driven campaign against the plaintiffs and the memory of their loved ones lost at Sandy Hook," the rejection letter states.

Jones was sued by several families of victims of the December 2012 mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, where 20 students and six educators were killed. Jones had claimed the massacre was a hoax, but he later said the killings were real.

Last year, Jones lost the two cases by default, which prompted the need for the depositions he skipped, in order to discuss damages.

Attorney Norm Pattis, who represents Jones, reportedly called the swift rejection a "ridiculous public relations stunt."

The parties are scheduled to appear in court in Connecticut Wednesday about the missed depositions.
