See Inside New Sandy Hook Elementary School

The new state-of-the-art school is set to open in the fall of 2016 on Dickinson Drive in Sandy Hook.

NEWTOWN, CT - The new Sandy Hook Elementary school's website recently featured photos of the project's progress that is set to open in the fall of 2016 on Dickinson Drive in Sandy Hook.

The previous location was demolished after the 2012 shooting of 26 students and educators. Students have been attending Chalk Hill Elementary School ever since the tragedy.

The new $50 million building is being built by Consiglii & Sons. Svigals + Partners designed the new school based on community input.

According to the website, work being completed this month includes:

  • Flooring installation in Wing B
  • Bathroom finishes in Wing B
  • Install ceiling finishes in Wing C
  • First coat paint Wing C
  • Begin casework installation in Wing C
  • Begin flooring installation in Wing C
  • Complete drywall taping in Wing D
  • Complete drywall soffits in Wing D
  • Install the lobby curtain wall framing
  • Continue installation of concrete site walls

The new school's enrollment numbers are expected to be over 500 from preschool through fourth grade.
