Sen. Murphy: Ted Cruz Ad Mentions Sandy Hook 'Makes Me Want to Throw Up'

A new Ted Cruz super PAC ad that mentions his efforts to stop gun legislation has drawn fire from fellow Senator Chris Murphy.

“After Sandy Hook, Ted Cruz stopped Obama’s push for new gun control laws,” the narrator said during the ad.

The ad was paid for by Courageous Conservatives PAC and wasn’t authorized by any candidate or candidate committee.

It depicted Cruz as a man of action, especially when compared to fellow presidential hopeful Senator Marco Rubio.

Murphy said the ad went too far and shows how callous Cruz is.

“The new Ted Cruz ad makes me want to throw up, and I’m pretty sure that’s a feeling shared by many who lived through the horror of Sandy Hook,” Murphy said in a statement.

Cruz highlights his commitment to the second amendment on his campaign website. It says he was recognized by NRA executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre who said, ““Ted Cruz is one of our nation’s leading defenders of the Second Amendment.”

Murphy has made gun violence one of the key issues of his tenure in the senate.

Murphy went on to say that Cruz’s views might garner some right wing votes, but it won’t do him any favors in a general election where middle-of-the road voters support measures like expanded background checks.

“...it’s sick that he thinks he’ll win votes by specifically pointing out that in the wake of 20 dead first graders, he was the face of the fight to ensure no action was taken to stop ore deranged killers from walking into elementary schools with military-style assault weapons loaded with 30-round clips of ammunition,” he said.
