Senior Housing Proposal Advances In Newtown
A developer is seeking zoning changes for a 55-plus community.
NEWTOWN, CT — A proposal that would allow a new senior housing development on Mount Pleasant Road is continuing through Newtown's approval process.
During a June 18 meeting, the Planning and Zoning Commission continued public hearings on applications submitted by Summit at Newtown LLC involving property at 134-136 Mount Pleasant Road. According to meeting records, the applications include a proposed text amendment to the town's zoning regulations and a related zone change request.
The proposed text amendment would modify Newtown's Elderly Housing Zone regulations to allow independent living for residents age 55 and older with supporting amenities. The developer is also seeking to rezone the property from a General Business (B-2) district to a Multiple Family for Elderly Housing-Middle Density (EH-10 MD) district.
