A serious crash closed Rte. 25 in Newtown for several hours Tuesday night.
NEWTOWN, CT — Rte. 25 was closed Tuesday night after a stolen car crossed over into the opposite lane following a police chase and crashed into another car, according to Connecticut State Police.
At around 9:01 a.m., Rasheim Lewis, 32, of Danbury was trying to evade Monroe police who tried to stop the 2000 Honda Civic he was driving because it was reported stolen, state police allege. While traveling north on Rte. 25, Lewis attempted to negotiate a turn when he crossed into the opposing lane of traffic and hit a Mercedes Benz driven by a 46-year-old Sandy Hook woman.
Lewis was transported to Danbury Hospital for serious injuries. The woman suffered minor injuries and was not taken to the hospital. The crash closed the road for several hours.
